Marcus Tobias Muller
As a wedding and Event Planner, I don’t only get the opportunity to plan wonderful life events for other people, but I get the absolute joy and pleasure of planning events for my own family and friends. Over this past weekend, I had the utter enjoyment of planning my own son’s Baptism.
Marcus is 6 months old, and a very active little fellow. He’s learning and growing very quickly into this world. He wants to explore and see things and touch everything. His recent achievements include the ‘army crawl’ which certainly keeps us busy and constantly ‘on watch’. His latest fascinations include turning the dials on the receiver for the TV, as well as attempting to tear the paper off the gifts under our Christmas tree. Our little guy is captivated by, and loves to grab the noses and examine facial hair on the men in our family. So, needless to say, we were not so surprised when he seized the minister’s nose and microphone during his Baptism on Sunday. The congregation responded with joyful laughter as our playful little boy teased the minister and entertained us all.
The Baptism went very well, considering this was the first time our son had actually attended church with us since he was born. He was absolutely fascinated by the magnificent surroundings.
To say that the Knox United Church is beautiful is an understatement. My husband and I had a wonderful wedding there in 2010, so it was fitting to continue our family traditions in the same location. Large stained glass windows, a vast pipe organ and traditional oak pews make this downtown church a stunning wonder. The old charm of the church is carried through into the actual service that they have there every Sunday morning. Their values are very traditional, with a 16 person choir, soloist, and one of the top organists in the country. The service was beautiful in every aspect of the word.
After the service, I planned a reception for our closest friends and family back at our home in New Brighton. I selected blue and white for the colours, blue for our little boy of course, and white to symbolize the events that took place that morning. We served coffee, tea, wine for those so inclined, and a light fare of a few cheeses, fruits and snacks. We had a gorgeous little red velvet cake made by my friend Sarah Isaak, of 4 The Love of Cake. She did a wonderful job, as usual, and the cake turned out exactly how I’d expected. Everything went perfectly.
For Marcus it was a long day. Our little man missed his mid-day nap, but that did not phase him one little bit. There was so much to do, and so many people to see. He continued on with entertaining us all into the late afternoon. Accompanied by not only our family in town, but by our parents from Manitoba, all in all it was a wonderful day for all of us and a wonderful experience that we will cherish for a lifetime. Marcus will not remember what happened on that day, but we will tell him the story of how the minister joked about the size of his nose, when our cheeky little son thought it was placed on his face, solely for the purpose of tugging on, and how he made the congregation of about 100, laugh hysterically.
We are proud, very proud, parents of our beautiful little comedian, Marcus.

What’s Hot? Vintage Themed Weddings
It seems that the latest wedding trend for 2011/2012 season is vintage themed weddings. I was recently a bridesmaid in such a wedding. The venue: Heritage Park’s Gasoline Museum in Calgary. This location provides the perfect backdrop for a vintage wedding. The historical village complete with an old carousel, candy store and ice-cream shop, an old saloon, and not to mention the old fashioned gas pumps and vintage cars in the museum itself! Beautiful. But you don’t need an old historical village to pull of this theme. Using mason jars for your centrepeices or creating your own seating chart from old frames could be just the answer. Today’s brides are getting very creative! Candy bars can also add that vintage flair with oversized lollips and licorice allsorts. Or perhaps old style popped corn machines or cotton candy! Bird cages are popular in place of the traditional card box, and can be completely personalized to suite the colours of the wedding. Whatever your desires, you can take this theme and really run with it. We’ve put together a list of ideas below. Feel free to make your own contributions to our ideas!
